I love food and I love cooking for my family.
In 2013 I moved with my partner and small baby from Canada to Kathmandu, Nepal. Although we enjoy our adventurous life here, I initially struggled with not being able to find and cook the food we really love. We didn't have the same access to the variety of foods that are available in Western grocery stores, and routine load-shedding means often we are without sufficient power to operate an electric oven or other kitchen gadgets.
We have come to appreciate and enjoy a vast number of Nepali dishes, but I am not a skilled Nepali cook and I often crave more internationally focused dishes.
After more than a year of searching grocery stores & markets, and learning my way around the Nepali kitchen, I have developed a small repertoire of dishes that I hope to share with others who are living without many kitchen luxuries.
Most of these recipes aim to be simple, family-friendly, and easily-adaptable, so you can adjust according to what's in season.
If you live in Kathmandu, feel free to inquire as to where I have found some of the more speciality ingredients.
